How do I clean the Avatour hardware?

This "How-To" provides the basic steps on how to safely clean your AVATOUR hardware.

Cleaning Components

  1. 2 Microfiber Cloths
    • 1 Dry
    • 1 Moistened but not dripping
  2. Bleach free alcohol solution

Note: Must be bleach-free as fumes can damage eyes if applied to hardware close to eyes.
    • Options:
      • Diluted alcohol solution containing 70-75% alcohol
      • Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes (Bleach-free)
      • PDI Super Sani-Cloth® Germicidal Disposable Wipe
  3. UV sterilizer (optional)

Do's

  1. Prepare several microfiber cloths to use for cleaning
    • Make sure they are dust free
  2. Dampen microfiber cloth
    • Make sure the cloth is not dripping.  Liquid dripping into the headset or controllers could cause damage
  3. Use the dry microfiber cloth to wipe the lenses
  4. UV sterilizers
    • Should be used with care
    • Some may cause domestic or lens discoloration with prolonged exposure

Don'ts

  1. Do not spray disinfectants or other liquids directly on VR equipment
  2. Do not apply disinfectants or wipes to foam material, fabric (such as staps), or sensitive components (such as lenses or eye trackers).
  3. Do not dip or soal the hardware in liquid.
  4. Aside from the above recommendations, do not use other organic solvents for cleaning the following:
    • Exterior of headsets
    • Controllers
    • Accessories
  5. Do not use acidic liquids.
  6. For VR headsets, do not keep them out in direct sunlight

Steps

  1. Clean the lenses (360 camera and VR lens)
    • Use an air pump to blow away dust and particles from the lenses and trackers.
    • Use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe the lenses and trackers
  2. Wipe in a circular motion from the center to the outer edges
    • While cleaning the lenses, be careful not to scratch the lenses or disassemble other parts of the hardware
  3. Using one of the recommended disinfectants or wipes, clean the hard surfaces you touch the most, such as:
    • Tripod
    • Mount
    • VR headset band
    • Adjustment dial on the back of the headset
    • Headset controller handles
  4. Completely dry at room temperature
  5. Dry it using paper towels to remove residue from disinfectants
    • This helps prevent possible skin irritation or allergies
